29-drive-awayAs you read above, I have made it back to explore further. I have been working my way thru the project  . . . . slowly. I have now joined igoogle.  Had fun setting up my page, adding gadgets and themes.  As soon as I started exploring this page I could see why it is such a valuable tool to utilise. Have now bookmarked as my homepage and customised – a bit sad when I got a buzz adding the New Scientist gadget, can now keep up to date with latest science info :)

Wow Suz you have opened up a whole new aspect of the web for us – thanks for all your work setting this project up. I’m sure all the staff following Redback really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this.

Well the week is almost over and finally I have found some time to set up my blog.

I have no experience at all with blogs but can see the potential for them in education.  I have been reading about work that Andrew Douch from Wanganui SC (http://andrewdouch.wordpress.com/)   has been doing with his VCE Biology students and it has inspired me to take the leap and not just dabble in emerging technolgies but dive in.  I took the plunge, with support and advice from Suz ~ thanks heaps :) , and applied for TPL. I found out yesterday that I was successful ~ yeah!

I will be investigating using podcasts in VCE Chemistry  and was also planning at looking at using instant messaging with students. As I  have started to find out more about blogs, this might actually be the way to go and not MSM etc. Why do I want to use instant messaging? In chem I find students get home start to do some problems, get stuck and stop. If they can get help when they need it, not just from me but from each other, it makes their life easier and study less frustrating.

By creating a chem blog with my year 11 and12 students they can help each other but also discuss other areas of interest. ie the Hadron Collider or the methane gas leak.

The Redback project is perfectly timed for me ~ what I learn in the next 10-12 weeks will definetely help me in my TPL. Ultimately I want to be able to transfer my knowledge and skills to my teaching – connect with kids, help them with their pathway through school to the next phase of their life and take with them knowledge/skills/values.

Enough dribble from me, its a beautiful sunny day and I need to get some Vitamin B.
